CBD Cross-cutting issues
Impact Assessment, Liability and Redress.
- Article 14(1) of the CBD requires Contracting Parties to ensure that proposed projects which are likely to have significant adverse effects on biodiversity are subject to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with a view to avoiding or minimizing such effects. Article 14(2) requires CoP to examine the issue of liability and redress, including restoration and compensation, for cross-border damage to biological diversity.
