CBD Cross-cutting issues

Sustainable Use of Biodiversity

- Sustainable use of the components of biological diversity is one of the three objectives of the CBD, as defined in Article 2 and elaborated in Article 10. With the adoption of sustainable use of biodiversity as a cross-cutting issue at CoP5, three workshops were held between September 2001 and February 2002, involving the development of practical principles, operational guidance and associated instruments, with each workshop focusing on different ecosystems within the CBD’s thematic work programme.
