CBD Cross-cutting issues

 

Traditional Knowledge, Innovations and Practices.

 

- Article 8(j) of the CBD requires Contracting Parties to respect, preserve and maintain the knowledge and practices of such communities embodying traditional lifestyles which conserve and use biodiversity in a sustainable manner. The Article also seeks to promote the sharing of benefits which derive from such knowledge and practices with these communities. This issue has a high profile within the CBD, and a working group has been established specifically to address the implementation of Article 8(j) and related CBD provisions.
