Marine and Coastal Biodiversity
- In view of concern for the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity, the Parties to the CBD agreed on the Jakarta Mandata on Marine and Coastal Biological Diversity in 1995. A programme of work to implement the Jakarta Mandate was adopted in 1998 (Decision IV/5), and was reviewed and updated in 2004 (Decision VII/5). The marine and coastal biodiversity thematic work programme includes oceans, regional seas, intertidal areas and estuaries. The programme includes five thematic issues, namely: integrated marine and coastal area management, marine and coastal living resources, marine and coastal protected areas, mariculture and alien species.
